What's in My Manicure Bag???

Any nail addict will have a set of manicure tools they hold very dear to their hearts and I am no exception!

Before I collected all my stuff into one pretty pink bag, it would take me ages to rummage through my stuff to find everything I needed as organisation is not my thing but now it's easy peasy!!

So there are 9 things that I consider are essential to keeping my nails in tip top condition and here they are.

Base & Top Coat : At the moment I am using OPI Matte Nail Envy as a base coat and it's really keeping my nails long and strong. For top coat I bought a set of 6 from a company called Beauty 4 Britain. I didn't hold out much hope but it's actually better than I thought,  nice and shiny and dries really quickly

Cuticle Pusher: I have 2 of these one metal one and an orange wood stick. I use the orange wood stick to keep everything neat and tidy in between polish changes. The metal one is for when I use my CND CuticleAway to do a proper manicure which I do once a week.

Glass Nail File: I only got this a few months back and I adore it! It is easier on the nail plate and I have been able to keep my nails from splits and flaking since I've been using it so highly recommend getting yourself one of those!!

Cuticle Nippers: Purely for nipping off loose bits of skin that pop up with doing a full manicure. It can be tempting to over do it but you're in for a world of pain if you do!! So you have been warned!!

Nail Polish Thinner: If you read my post Crimes Against Nail Polish, you'll already be aware that this stuff is the only thing to use if you have a gloopy polish so I buy an big bottle and decant into this little one for ease use!

Clean Up Brush: Come on no ones perfect so this is for the times I take my eye off the ball!!

Polish Bottle Holder: I love this thing!! The shape of the top means that it will hold almost any shape of bottle (my top coat one doesn't fit! Typical!) and then when you're ready to swap hands you just squeeze the 2 tabs above the ring section and I pop off straight up! Not messing up your nails at all!!

Burts Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream: I've spoken about this before in my March Favourites and Im still stuck to it like glue! It has a wonderfully fresh lemon smell and keeps my cuticle nice and soft! LOVE IT!!

So there you have it all the things that I consider to be essential to keeping my nails in tip top condition and if I dare say it I haven't had a breakage since I've been using this routinely (now I've said that they are going to snap one by one!!)

Don't forget I regularly post on my Instagram and I've been using there new 24 hour video feature to sort of vlog so you can keep up to date on there!!

Happy To Be Back!!!!!!

As you may or may not have noticed there has been a massive gap between this post as the last about not being on here as much as most bloggers but after reading that post back I realised a few things.

I had a recent appointment with my pain consultant and he wasn't the bearer of good news that I hoped. He told me that I only had a 60% chance of being completely pain free in the next 3-4 years, so needless to say that was a kick in the metaphorical nuts!

This shook me to the core and took my confidence completely. I mean who would want to hear from a disabled 29 year old mother of 2 when there are so many beautifully talented beauty bloggers out there who can review products regularly and do some breath taking photography. But it came to me a few days ago that this is my little part of the Internet and I shouldn't compare myself to others.

So as you can see there have been a few changes around here. I'm still really passionate about nails, so Nailpixi is going to stay, but I also going to be blogging about make up things I have been learnings (some of my looks in the pic below) and keeping you posted on the progress I'm making with my recovery.

I'm not going to stress about stats or PR contacts I'm going to take a what will be will be approach. I started this blog to distract me from my real life but I think that accepting things and writing things down is going to help me process the situation!

So there you have it Nailpixi is changing and you are very welcome to come along for the ride it's going to be an interesting one I can feel it!!

Long Time No Post!!!!

Well it's definitely been quiet round here of late but I do have a valid excuse HONEST :)

If you have read the post (I am Disabled) you will already know the history of my back problem (if not pop back via the link I'll just wait here!) things have been getting worse instead of better, a lot worse! Thankfully (after 27 MONTHS I might add) my doctors are really getting their teeth into the root of the problem. I am currently waiting for a new set of MRI results to decide what happens next. I post a lot on Twitter about it so be sure to follow me for regular up dates.

I have been a bit of a hermit for ages now due to the pain. Sitting and standing are really painful so typing up posts or taking pics for them just haven't been possible. Also my mental health has suffered causing my depression to deepen, but that dark cloud is beginning to lift and life doesn't seem so non-existent!

One advantage is that I have been naughty and done a little bit of online shopping, so their will be haul/review posts up soon.

So that's about it really. Just felt that I should explain what's been going on and I've not given up on you all! Don't forget that you can find me on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for make up looks and nail art pics!!

Lots of love

Products I'm Loving March 2016

So it's near at dam it the end of March and on a Twitter poll I did this was what you all wanted to see so who am I to disagree!!

Firstly it has to be the rediscovery of my Chanel Foundation!!! I knew that I had bought 2 of the Mat Lumíer ages ago and between reshuffling my bedroom a couple of times I had misplaced the I unused bottle till the other day! Now, yes I know that Matt Lumíer doesn't exist in that format or formula anymore but I just adore it. As you may or may not know I suffer from combination skin that is very prone to break outs so I need a matte foundation.. This one leaves your skin with a glow that you don't often get with matte foundations. Another plus side is that it agrees with my skin and doesn't add to any of my problems. It is so worth the investment and a little goes a long way (thankfully!! :) )

To go with that my next favourite is my Real Techniques Stippling Brush! I am useless with flat foundations brushes and then I bought this beauty and there was never a line of foundation on my jaw line ever again!! It is a round headed, duo fibre synthetic brush and just the perfect size for my face. It is so easy to clean too and is beautifully soft for a synthetic brush. I have a few other Real Techniques brushes and they are all just as amazing as this one!
Another rediscovery this month has been my Burts Bees lemon butter cuticle balm. With the weather in the UK being its usual self my hand have taken a right beating with cuticles drier than the desert!! I lather this stuff on at night and by morning they are soft and smelling of lemon! It's always a good idea to use a balm in winter as they are much more moistursing than an oil,, keeping those precious talons at their best all year round!!

Finally I have fallen totally head over heels for green tea! Yes yes I know late to the party again, but as I take so much medications for my back I needed something to help keep the rest of my body in as good condition as possible and green tea was the answer! I have a couple of cups a day ( couldn't give my morning coffee up I mean come on how would one function!!!) I have added lemon into the mix as this boosts the antioxidants and adds a shot of vitamin C. I have also taken to used Green tea as a toner mixed with witch hazel to help deal with my adult acne, which you can read about here.I'll do a full post on it soon.

So there you have it, just a few things that have really rocked my world this month and as we are rapidly approaching April that mean season 6 of Game of Thrones is nearly here!!!!!! Anyway I'd love to hear what you've loved this month so either comment below or tweet me!!

Hair Care Routine

When it came to looking after my hair, it wasn't until I started reading blogs and doing my own research that I realised just how important looking after my hair was! Before then I was awful! Bleaching, dying, heated tool, no heat protectant you name it I was doing it and was always complaining that my hair was thin and lacked shine and just look done in! No bloody wonder the torture it had been through, I'm surprised I had any left!, but now I am more informed and I think (hope) my hair has forgiven me! So here's what I now do!

Firstly lets start with the basics, shampoo and conditioner. Like most of you, I have tried many different brands over the years, but the one that I have been using now for more than 9 months is Loreal Fibrology. I first bought this stuff just to see if it lived up to the claims on the bottle as I did have fine hair lacking in volume. After I had finished the first bottles I was truly amazed. My hair had thickness that it had never had before and overall my hair just felt healthier. This has continued  bottle after bottle, so I highly recommend it for thin, fine hair. Once a month I mix in about a heaped teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda with the shampoo and focus on my scalp. This removes product build up but also can be drying so hence why I only do it once a month. No one likes snow on their shoulders!!
Once out of the shower, I carefully squeeze any excess water out of my hair and wrap it in a very loose towel turban which I take out once I am dressed to let it air dry. Before I comb it through with my Toni & Guy wide toothed comb I run a small amount of coconut oil through the ends. This help to hydrate and repair my ends and smooths the appearance of slit ends. I have only just started doing this and already I am surprised how much healthier the ends look even it I have been using my curling wand!

Now my hair is longer it take twice the time to dry, so I tend to faf about a bit till my hair is a bit drier to save my arms a bit!! I use KMS California ColourVitality as a heat & colour protectant. It is a light cream product so it doesn't weigh down your hair. I'm now ready to dry! My hairdryer of choice is the Babyliss Turbo Power 2200. It is amazing I have had this same one for about 8 years and I'm in now hurry to change it. It gives me just the amount of heat I was and it also has a turbo and cooling switch that are just wear you hold it so it really convenient. I use a defuser so I can keep & direct the heat where I want it. Also I use a combination of 2 round brushes, the larger one for volume at the roots and the smaller one to straighten.

So there you go, that's how I take care of my now luscious locks. I am on a journey to look after it better and keep it looking as well as I feel it looks now, but in saying that I am booking in for a redo of my highlights shortly but a girls gotta look good!!!

Crowd Colour Base Palette

There is one thing that a girl can never have enough of and that is room for more make up! Beauty Crowd Pro were inviting people to come forward to have a Crown Colour Base Palette customised and I was beyond shocked when I received a DM on Twitter saying that they would love to work with me! Me, little old me! I could reply quick enough I was so excited!

The hardest part of this whole process was deciding what I would have put on the lid. They said that I could have basically anything. Any background, lettering, a picture so it took a bit of time to decide. I finally settled on the phrase " You are Beautiful" on a plain white background in cursive lettering. I chose this so that whenever I look at my dressing table I would be reminded that we are all beautiful with and without makeup and I found that very empowering. I got a mock up picture sent and loved it and they said they would be in touch again once it was ready to ship.

I got a tweet not long after showing mine and the other palettes that were ready for shipping and I was blown away by not only mine, but the creativity of the others! The countdown was on till I was going to get my paws on it!!

The palette is the medium size that they make and this will hold 15 eyeshadow pans on the magnetic base and also has a strong magnetic close. It is made from a very high quality card and is wipeable and splash proof. I gave the palette a really good shake with a blush pan inside and it neither opened or the pan moved so this makes it ideal for travelling. The lettering in embossed onto the lid and very professionally done. The added bonus (as if it was fantastic enough already!) is the massive mirror on the inside of the lid. It almost covers the entire inside of the lid and looks to me to be slightly magnified, being a glasses wearer I was able to see what I was doing without having it hanging off the end of my nose!!

The palette I received retails for £14 from Crowd Colour and they also have small and large sized palettes. They are all customisable and if you are struggling to decide what you want on it they have a range of pre-designed patterns you can choose from.

They are more than worth the money and a great way to brighten up your makeup storage or even use it for organisation! I'm in love with mine have been depotting like mad since it arrived!!

Nail Polish Remover Clips?!?!

If you are a frequent wearer of glitter polish or very layered nail art, you will know the pain that comes with removing it! Getting out the kitchen foil, tearing apart the cotton wool and then the really tricky part of precariously wrapping each nail, which is beyond tricky on your non dominant hand. This process really did put me off from wearing glitter but no more!! I have discovered a product  which has opened up my glitter polish world again!!

They are nail polish remover clips! Yes I did say clips but bear with me the picture will make it clearer! I first seen them on the facebook page Nail Addicts and I was instantly on Amazon searching and finally purchasing these clips for £1.67 with free postage. They did take a little while to arrive as they came from China (now I always check where its coming from before buying!!)

Now as you can see they do look very odd, but I tried them out for the first time the other night and I was over the moon. I used them by placing the polish remover soaked cotton wool on my nail, then placed the clip over top and let it there for the same amount of time I would if I had been using foil. What really impressed me was that they were very easy to apply to my right hand even with the clips on my left which isn't the case when I have foils on! Then I removed the clips and slide off the cotton wool and the polish was removed perfectly.

I was dubious whether they would let the cotton wool dry out, but the cotton was just as saturated as it was at the beginning. I was using acetone based removed and it didn't damage the clips at all, which was a worry too. I'm in love with these clips and wearing glitter polish removal will no longer be the pain in the ass it once was! So go buy and love them!!! Ill be doing a video on my You Tube channel demonstrating them properly so keep and eye on my twitter feed for that!!

I am Disabled

If you follow me on Twitter you will have seen this post and I thought that I should really explain what it was about.

About 18 months ago I suffered a back injury. It's not as scary as it sounds I promise. I slipped, slipping a lower back disc and it caused damage to my sciatic nerve leading to my left leg. This left my leg very very weak to the point that I require crutches to get about and a wheelchair for long distances. It took the doctors ages to really figure out what was going on, even took them ages to scan me, all the while this disc was delicate and there is now also a little tear in it.

I had kinda come to terms with the fact that my back and leg would be a weak point in the future but this week my physiotherapist (who I have only just started seeing! I mean I love the NHS but they have pissed me off with this situation) that I will struggle to regain 100% strength and usage of the leg ever, she couldn't even say if I'd ever get off crutches (which is a hell of an ab workout!!) and the word disabled was used for the first time.

This hit me like a brick wall! I'm only 28 years old and I was looking forward to starting a career now that the girls are getting older, but now I have to re-arrange my whole life. I have to take strong medications to keep my condition and my pain at bay and I now have to have local anesthetic injections into my lower back so that I find physio easier to bear. Im even at the stage where I have to adapt my house so that I can live easier, a seat in the shower, handrails and I have even had to give up my lovely loft conversion bedroom for one on the floor below.

The past 18 months have been the hardest of my life and if it wasn't for the support of my husband,  family and friends, it's also the reason I started blogging as there isn't much you can do when your on permanent bed rest!  Life for me has changed forever and it's actually help me find strength I didn't even know that I had. My situation is nothing really compared to the suffering of others out there and a blog that proves this is one of my favorites called Living with Stage 4 Cancer please give it a read and send all your love and strength to her!

DIY Lip Scrub

I am normally crap a making DIY beauty things but this is one that turned out how it was supposed to so I thought that I would share it with you!

This lip scrub contains just 2 simple ingredients. Coconut oil and brown sugar!! Now I am hoping that most of you will have brown sugar of some sort lurking at the back of your baking cupboard. Brown sugar is used as it is less refined and tends to be chunkier so getting a better result.

Coconut oil is the in thing at the moment, it seems to be this all in one cure for just about anything! If you go to they are a massive amounts of ways you can use this stuff from skin, hair, makeup remover and also of course you can add it to food! I have be on the back burner when it comes to buying some because I was scared of being lumbered with a pot of stuff that didn't live up to expectations! So I was very excited when an email came in from This is a website that searches the net for any and every kind of free sample or giveaways that there is and this is where I notice the Vita Coco were giving away free samples of their coconut oil (you can also get the samples from here) A very excited me got onto that like a rat up a drain pipe and when they arrived there was 2 quite sizable samples ready to play with!!
Right back to the lip scrub! I decanted some of the coconut oil into a clean small jar (that used to contain rhinestones!!) and then added some brown sugar to it a little at a time and mixed it together with a cotton bud. I tested it on the back of my hand and it wasn't quite "rough" enough for my liking so I simply added more sugar. That's the beauty of making this yourself you can adjust the texture to your own preference!

It leaves your lips beautifully smooth and soft and the softness lasts ages as the coconut oil is very moisturizing and easily absorbed by the skin so a scrub & balm in one!!

There are a few other ways I am looking into trying with the coconut oil and I will keep you posted on how they turn out!

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year to you all!! Can't believe that it is 2016 already! 2015 just seemed to fly by! I can't decide if it's the fact that I have kids or the years are really going faster now that I am older!! But what does 2016 hold for me and Nailpixi?????

Well let's start with Nailpixi. 2015 was the most amazing year at the beginning and things were going exactly as I had wanted them too, but then the dark demon of my anxiety came creeping back and I lost all confidence in my writing and social media and I just needed a break. But the clouds are clearing now and I have spoken to some amazing people who feel the same way as me and they have helped get back in the driving seat and stop worrying so much about numbers and being approached by companies and just write for the sake of writing. This is what I am going to be focusing on and yes from time to time there will be product reviews ( I have one waiting to upload just needs pictures!) so I hope that you will come along on this journey with me!

As for me that's a bit of a long story, but I'll keep it short. I have a serious back injury and now I am getting physiotherapy for that and I am hoping for a positive outcome. Just before Christmas I was giving the bombshell that there may be something wrong with my heart and that's really scary! I am seeing the cardiologist soon and I'm hoping that it's a lot of fuss about nothing, but if there is something wrong at least they have noticed it and will get it sorted.

My mental and physical health was something that plagued me a lot during 2015 and I'm feeling more positive and my back will hopefully respond to the treatment. I'm going to do a post about my mental health story as I am a strong advocate for getting rid of the stigma and getting people talking about it!

So here's to 2016 and what ever it may bring!!
